Individual therapy can help clients navigate a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, stress, OCD, grief and loss, identity concerns, life transitions, and relationship patterns.
A strong relationship between the client and therapist is the most important part of any individual psychotherapy. Creating a strong and positive relationship with my clients in my first priority.
Each session is driven by the unique goals and issues a client brings in. My sessions often focus on reducing anxiety, increasing self-awareness, and increasing understanding of your internal experiences and your experiences with other people in the world.
Long term individual work often incorporates exploration of the deep, complicated parts of life that we don’t always address in our day-to-day experiences. Intentionally addressing these concerns can ultimately lead to deeper a sense of awareness and purpose, as this type of work focuses on questions of meaning, creativity, and love.
Couples therapy sessions help partners deepen their connection, improve communication, and resolve conflicts in a productive way. I work with couples to identify patterns of behavior that may be causing distress/conflict and provide tools to help them build a stronger, healthier relationship.
Specifically, I incorporate Gottman skills based techniques with Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), and Imago couples therapy approaches in couples sessions. This process typically includes decreasing any potential feelings of resentment and increasing positive sentiment between you and your partner. It also incorporates learning to navigate conflict more effectively while gaining a deeper understanding of your own and your partner's emotional experiences (past and present) in relationships.
Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a highly effective treatment for OCD that involves increased exposure to obsessional fears and/or anxiety-provoking scenarios to help desensitize clients, decreasing overall anxiety, obsessional thoughts or behaviors. I have experience treating numerous OCD themes and subtypes including R-OCD, contamination OCD and scrupulosity themes. I conduct ERP as part of individual sessions.
Exposure-based approaches also work well with other types of anxiety including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, etc. My sessions often includes elements of exposure in combination with sensible precautions to help foster clients’ abilities to think clearly and conquer fears that feel outsized to the problem.
